Robert R. West
Area of Expertise
Proteomics, protein analytical, natural products chemistry
Current Position
Senior Research Scientist
Degree
Ph.D., Organic chemistry, Montana State University, 1989
Research Interests
Mass spectrometry based proteomics has shown great promise for the discovery of novel biomarkers of health and disease for some time now, but to date this technology has not yet produced widely applicable new tools for prognosis and therapy. Dr. West's research at the ISB is focused on connecting mass spectrometry based biomarker discovery to validation methods in order to establish a pipeline that will enable proteomics based biomarkers to progress to clinical utility.
Rob has 18+ years experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, and his experience ranges from the isolation and structure elucidation of bioactive natural products compounds to the physico-chemical characterization of proteins. In his previous employment, Rob managed a protein analytical and proteomics lab that was responsible for the characterization of protein clinical drug candidates as well as the identification of biomarkers and novel therapeutic leads using proteomics.
